Appendix cancer? Ugh, I didn’t even realize that was a thing. Too young, RIP.

Yeah, appendiceal cancer is very rare, affecting fewer than 1,000 people in the US each year.

Bummer, I liked her Regan Reilly novels.

I tried liking her mom’s stories but she was such a poor writer. I also felt Mary was a homophobe: no gay characters in any of the novels I read, & so any were set in or near NYC. My fave was the one set in the fashion industry (the fad of the year was underwater/tropical) with all the male designers raging pussyhounds. MHC reminded me of Cindy Adams.

But back to Carol, her stories were lighter & she had a good sense of humor. She also acted in a few adaptations of her mom’s novels. RIP

Btw Sue Grafton died of appendix cancer, right before she finished her final Kinsey Millhone book.. Female mystery writers if a certain age, beware!

What a strange coincidence, R5. Sue Grafton was one of my favorite authors.

Her books had a cute ass, but she couldn't live forever.

Which of her books can DL recommend?

Mary Higgins Clark was in her 30s when her first husband died of a heart attack, leaving her with 5 young children, including Carol, to support. Mary's own father had died suddenly when she was 12, and her mother had struggled to keep the family of four afloat, but they eventually lost their house. Carol's brother David was formerly married to the writer Mary Jane Clark.
